Bula!
White beaches, lush rain forests, rich cultural tradition, and clear seas in shades of blue and green like you’ve never seen. This is the Fiji islands, and was my paradise for a week.
I had the pleasure of visiting 5 luxury resorts on 5 different islands. The dreamy accommodations range from overwater bungalows to thatched roof treehouses (or bures) – and everything in between – so you really need to experience at least 2 different properties to get the most out of your vacation. Know that Bure is the Fijian word for a wood-and-straw hut, but these places are anything but, and the pictures below hardly do the destination justice.
Here is a brief overview of my favorites, including the activities that await.
The Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa
The Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa is a large property located just 45 minutes from Nadi International Airport featuring a swimmable beach, expansive spa facilities, and a championship golf course. From the kid-friendly amenities to the adventurous water sports off Natadola Bay, there is truly something for everyone. Should you decide to venture beyond the resort during your stay, I highly recommend the Sigatoka River Safari where travelers can experience the essence of traditional Fijian life by visiting a local village.

Likuliku Lagoon Resort
Likuliku is a stunning and incredibly romantic adults-only resort located on Malolo Island, perfect for couples and honeymooners. Guests are immersed in a private, secluded atmosphere reminiscent of being on their own island while still enjoying all the amenities of a resort. Stay in an overwater bure with the ocean as your backyard or a beachfront bure complete with an outdoor shower, private deck with a daybed, and some with a plunge pool. Enjoy all-inclusive dining and a wide range of activities, from the amazing snorkeling on the resort beach to exploring the nearby Mamanuca Islands on a private morning excursion.

Qamea Resort & Spa Fiji
Venture to the outer islands of Fiji for a stay at the all-inclusive Qamea Resort & Spa, a laid-back boutique resort on a lush private island near Taveuni. Relax in your beachfront bure, get a spa treatment in one of the private huts at the Jungle Spa, and meet other guests while watching a traditional meke dance at the resort cocktail hour. There are plenty of land and water activities both on the island of Qamea as well as Taveuni, allowing guest to experience hikes through the rainforest, waterfall treks, snorkeling, and fishing excursions.

The white sand beaches, crystal clear water, and tropical rainforest makes the island a true paradise.
Matangi Private Island Resort
Matangi Private Island Resort is an exceptional property with beautiful accommodations and great amenities, from their award winning spa to the all-inclusive dining options. Thatched-roof bures located throughout the property, whether on the beachfront or tucked within the foliage in treehouses, offer a sense of authenticity and traditional Fijian style. Not only are there plenty of activities at the resort, but guests also have the opportunity to grab their snorkel gear and kayak and head to the island’s famous Horseshoe Bay, considered one of the 1000 Places to See Before You Die.

Namale Resort & Spa
Located on the island of Vanua Levu, Namale Resort & Spa is an adults-only retreat that offers unique experiences and a totally all-inclusive program in which activities from boating to horseback riding and alcoholic beverages are complimentary to guests. Visit Savusavu town, hike up to the resort’s waterfall with a picnic lunch, or bowl in the activity center during your stay. Unwind after a day of adventure in the massive spa, complete with hydrotherapy pools and signature treatments. All bures are spacious and spread throughout the property with villas boasting private pools and beaches for ultimate seclusion.
Private dining options are available throughout the property, from lunch at the waterfall to candlelit dinner overlooking the beach below.
The quiet beach is ideal for those who would like to relax or go on a reef walk and explore the tide pools.
